Main Action of Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan

The functions of this Chinese medicine herbal formula is to warm and tonify the kidney yang. This TCM herbal formula is best suited in conditions of kidney yang deficiency with insufficient fire at the gate of vitality. Kidney yang is also known as source yang and is the basis for the yang of the entire body.

Indications and Symptoms for Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan

lower back pain, weakness of the lower extremities, cold sensation in the lower body, tenseness in the lower abdomen, irritable, breathes most comfortably while leaning against something, urinary difficulty with edema or copious urination, slight incontinence.

Tongue – pale, swollen, white moist coat

Pulse – empty, frail, submerged

Herbal Ingredients of Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan

Sheng Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Glutinosae, Chinese Foxglove Root, Rehmannia) - 24g.

-nourish kidney yin, tonify blood

Shan Zhu Yu (Fructus Corni Officinalis, Asiatic Cornelian Cherry Fruit, Cornus) - 12g.

-tonify liver and kidneys, nourish essence and blood

Shan Yao (Radix Dioscoreae Oppositae, Chinese Yam, Dioscorea) - 12g.

-tonify liver and spleen, nourish essence and blood

Fu Zi (Radix Lateralis Aconiti,Carmichaeli, Szechuan Aconite Root, Aconite) - 3g.

-tonifies source fire (kidney yang Qi), warms cold conditions

Gui Zhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi Cassiae, Cinnamon, Cassia Twig) - 3g.

-warms bladder, promotes urination, warms joints and channels

Ze Xie (Rhizoma Alismatis Orientalitis, Water Plantain Rhizome, Alisma) - 9g.

-unblock water pathways, tonify spleen, drain dampness

Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos, China-root, Poria, Hoelen) - 9g.

-unblocks water pathways, tonify spleen, drains dampness

Mu Dan Pi (Cortex Moutan Radicis, Peony Tree Root Cortex, Moutan) - 9g.

-clears blood heat, promotes blood circulation, alleviates liver fire

Cooking Preparation of Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan

When preparing this Chinese medicine herbal formula one should grind all herbal ingredients into a fine powder and form into small pills with honey. Each dosage should be 6-9 grams one or two times daily with a glass of warm water. Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Glutinosae conquitae) is usually substituted with Sheng Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Glutinosae) by today’s practitioners.

Additional Information on Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan

This Chinese herbal formula contains Liu Wei Di Huang Wan with warming herbs added to aid yang Qi. Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan is generally prescribed to nourish and tonify both yin and yang of the kidneys.

When the appropriate symptoms are presented this alternative medicine herbal formula is able to treat such diseases as chronic glomerular, interstitial or diffuse nephritis, chronic urethritis, diabetes mellitus, primary hyperaldosteronism, hypothyroidism, neurasthenia, arthritis, berberi and chronic bronchial asthma.
