Main Action of Bao He Wan

The functions of this TCM herbal formula are to reduce food stagnation while harmonizing the stomach. This traditional chinese medicine formula is best suited for individuals who have food poisoning due to contaminated foods or from general over eating or over indulgence in rich foods and alcoholic beverages.

Indications and Symptoms for Bao He Wan

Abdominal distention, fullness in the chest and epigastrium, possible abdominal pains, smelly belching, acid regurgitation, nausea, possible vomiting, possible diarrhea, aversion to food

Tongue – yellow greasy coat

Pulse – slippery pulse

Herbal Ingredients of Bao He Wan

Shan Zha (Fructus Crataegi, Hawthorn Fruit, Crataegus) - 9-15g.

-reduces food stagnation due to meat and fatty foods

Shen Qu (Massa Fermentata, Medicated Leaven, Shen-chu) - 9-12g.

-reduces food stagnation due to alcohol and food

Lai Fu Zi (Semen Raphani Sativi, Radish Seeds, Raphanus) - 6-9g.

-clears phlegm due to grains, brings Qi downwards

Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Tangerine Peel, Citrus) - 6-9g.

-regulates Qi, clears stagnation

Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Tematae, Pinellia Rhizome) - 9-12g.

-regulates Qi, clears stagnation, eliminates phlegm

Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos, China-root, Poria, Hoelen) - 9-12g.

-tonify spleen, drains dampness, harmonizes middle jiao

Lian Qiao (Fructus Forsythiae Suspensae, Forsythia Fruit) - 3-6g.

-clears heat (food stagnation generally leads to heat)

Cooking Preparation of Bao He Wan

When preparing this natural herbal formula all the herbs must be ground into a fine powder and formed into pills with water. Generally doses of 6-9 grams are taken 2 times per day with a glass of warm water.

Additional Information on Bao He Wan

This Chinese medicine formula reduces food stagnation and preserves the proper functioning of the digestive organs. Bao He Wan is composed of relatively mild and harmonious herbs which gives rise to it’s name “Preserve Harmony Pill”.

When the appropriate symptoms are present this herbal formula is able to treat such disorders as acute gastroenteritis, acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis, hepatitis, acute pancreatitis and cholecystitis.
