Main Action of Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang

This TCM herbal formulas main function is to harmonize the stomach qi, redirect rebellious Qi downwards, disperse clumping and eliminate focal distention. The chinese medicine formula is best suited for conditions where there was improper purging of an exterior or half exterior condition in a patient with concurrent stomach deficiency. The purging action would aggravate the pre existing stomach deficiency causing the pathogenic influencesto sink deeper into the interior producing clumping.

Indications and symptoms for Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang

Epigastric focal distention, fullness of tightness with no pain, dry heaves, drank vomiting, borborygmus, diarrhea, poor appetite

Tongue – thin yellow greasy coat

Pulse – wiry rapid

Herbal Ingredients of Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang

Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Tematae, Pinellia Rhizome) – 9g.

Pungent warm, transforms cold phlegm, stop vomiting, reduce distention

Gan Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Officinalis, Dried Ginger Rhizome, Dried Ginger) - 9g.

Pungent, hot, expel interior cold, tonify yang deficiency, warms middle jiao-lungs-channels transforms phlegm, warms channels

Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae Baicalensis,k Baical Skullcap Root, Scutellaria, Scute) – 9g.

Bitter, cold, drain upper jiao fire, clear stomach damp heat, stop bleeding, clear liver yang rising

Huang Lian (Rhizoma Coptidis, Coptis Rhizome) – 3 g.

Bitter, cold, drain fire, relieve toxicity, drains damp heat from stomach, clears heart fire

Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, Ginseng Root) – 9g.

Warm, Tonify original/yuan qi lung qi spleen qi, generates fluids, benefits heart

Da Zao (Fructus Zizphi Jujubae, Chinese Date, Jujube) – 12 pieces

Sweet, tonify spleen qi, nourish blood

Zhi Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, Licorice Root) – 9g.

Harmonize herbal formulas, moisten lung, tonify spleen/stomach

Cooking Preparation of Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang

decoct the ingredients in 10 cups of water until six cups remain. remove ingredients and the decoction is then boiled down until 3 cups remain. This leaves three dosages of 1 cup each taken throughout the day.

Additional Information on Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang

this is a variation of the formula Xiao Chai Hu Tang and should be compared with it.

This herbal formula will treat acute gastroenteritis, chronic gastritis, chronic hepatitis, early-stage cirrhosis, indigestion, and gastric ulcers if they show the appropriate symptoms.
